Artist Investigation

Charity Hall: Born in Los Angeles in 1978, Hall became a full-time studio artist in 2013 after teaching metal art at Pima Community College for five years. She currently resides at Blacksburg, Vancouver .

1) What stood out to me about the black widow necklace was the amount of detail, and the stark contrast between the spider and the white background. The Wasp ring stood out to me with all the detail put into the wasp, at a level I haven't seen before this

2) Her inspiration for these pieces was probably her time studying botany at Colorado College, and the time spent around nature as a biological surveyor at the U.S Forest Service.

3) I could take the concept of contrast between the background and the foreground, which would make the art in the foreground stand out, along with making the piece look cleaner. I could also use more detail in my pieces, instead of using outlines the object I am modeling after

Janly Jaggard: Born in England 1949, Jaggard earned a BFA in Ceramics in the early 70's in England. She moved to the USA in the early 19990's and soon became an art teacher and artist. She went back to the UK and completed her MA in Fine Art in 2016.

1) What stood out to me the most about these pieces was the lack of structure or patterning. These pieces don't represent much, if not anything. These look like the artist closed her eyes and let her body control the creation of the pieces, rather than the mind

2) Her inspiration was probably the goal to use her available materials masterfully, as she states in her bio "My quest is that each creation generates a life of its own".

3) I could use the lack of symmetry in my pieces, in order to make my art look a little more "original".
